Among the Quechua Indians of Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador, a Despacho ceremony is extremely important and is the centerpiece of their spiritual and ritual heritage. There are many different types of Despacho ceremonies and all are created in sacred space as it is a healing sphere that is pure, holy, and safe. Within a sacred space we summon the healing powers of the Apus or “Spirits of the Mountain.”

Despachos of Accounting are where we review our year to see what went well and what didn’t work for us. We will then allow the Apus to advise us as to how to put our lives in order. In sacred ceremony we listen to the spirits of the mountains, the Apus, who advise us how to put our lives back in order. Using all white natural items bundled in large leaves, we then honor Mother Earth, Pachamama, as we bury the despachos. The Despacho then becomes a vehicle of Ayni back to the Apus. The concept of Ayni is central to Andean shamanism and is based on a mutual dependency between humans, nature and the spiritual realms. Ayni brings balance into our lives and creates a relationship between the material world and the world of the sacred.

Cost:  A donation of $20 to MCNJ as an act of “Ayni” will complete the “Sacred Hoop.”  Register and make payment through Paypal below. All materials for the Despacho of Accounting will be provided.
